This guide provides a framework for conducting print and electronic research.It includes general reference sources, education-related databases, education journals available electronically, suggested Internet links and print resources.

Find Books (and Other Materials) Using the Fogelson Library WebCat Catalog

Fogelson Library WebCat catalog is often the most appropriate place to begin your research. It provides access to the Library’s holding (books, ebooks, CDs, records, videos, music scores but NOT periodicals(see below for periodicals). It enables you to search for materials by author, title, subject, keyword, call number, journal title, etc.

Call Number Locations -- The Library of Congress classification call number area where most books, journals and other materials on education reside in the ‘L’ section of the Fogelson Library.

Find EBooks

Ebrary -- Ebrary is an online, full-text book source. This e-book collection contains many excellent titles and is convenient to use. Ebrary is available off campus by College of Santa Fe students, faculty and staff through your CSF account. In addition to searching Ebrary directly, you can find ebooks through the Fogelson Library WebCat catalog.

Find Articles/Journals/Periodicals

Articles on a Topic
To find articles on a specific topic, search one of the Fogelson Library's Education Databases. These resources are available remotely to College of Santa Fe students using your account information and in the Fogelson Library to all.
 

Education Databases (ranked and listed in relevance order and education level)
Education Research Complete Database (EBSCOhost) -- A definitive resource for education research. Covers all levels of education. Full Text to 950 journals; 80+ ebooks and numerous conference papers; Abstracts to 1,840 journals. 
ERIC (FirstSearch) (1966-Present) -- 1.1 million citations. Abstracts and 107,000+ Full Text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004). Provides Full Text for education journal articles (EJ references) and reports (ED references). Many ED reports are available full text. Contains citations not found in other databases for education.
ERIC (on the Web)   -- ERIC Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of more than 1.1 million citations from 1966 to the present. More than 107,000 full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004). Same content as is available through ERIC (FirstSearch), but the web search interface is not as user friendly.
ERIC Digests -- Provides one way to access to over 3000 ERIC Digests' short reports (1,000-1,500 words) on topics of prime interest in education produced by the ERIC Clearinghouse system.
What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) http://ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/ -- U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences
JSTOR (Full-Text) -- Indexes and provides full-text access to 64 scholarly education journals. 
InfoTrac Databases (Full-Text) -- Each of the following full-text databases cover Arts, Current Events, Government, Health, History, People, Popular Culture, Science, Sports and more.
Kids InfoBits -- Designed for elementary school students, this periodical database has almost 125 full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books for information.
Junior Edition 12 -- Designed for middle school and junior high school students. Periodicals database with over 330 full-text magazines, newspapers and reference books. Cross searchable with E-Books.
Student Edition K12 -- Designed for high school students. Periodicals database with over 1100 full-text magazines, newspapers, podcasts, and reference books. Cross searchable with E-Books.  Covers: Arts, Current Events, Geography, Government, Health, History, People, Science, Sports...

Find Hard Copy and Electronic Journals
Search CSF Journal by Keyword, Journal Title, Database Title, Subject or ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) for hard copy and online electronic periodicals / journals Fogelson Library subscribes or has access to.

Locating Hard Copy Education Journals in Fogelson Library -- Very recent education journals in paper are located on the main floor in the current periodicals area. Previous months and years are shelved by title on the lower level of Fogelson Library.

Subscription eJournals -- In addition to the print journals, Fogelson has access to 337 electronic full-text journals (eJournals). Please see above for links to access.

Open Access eJournals -- The following are open source electronic full-text journal sites that make scholarly journals available for free through the Internet.
Directory of Open Access Journals in Education (Lund University, Sweden) -- Scholarly Full Text Journals available at no cost.
Open Access Journals in Education American Educational Research Association) -- The American Educational Research Association Special Interest Group (AERA SIG) provides access to Full-Text scholarly & Peer-Reviewed Journals available at no cost.

Fogelson Library Reference Resources -- Reference resources can help you get an overview of a topic; define terms, theories, and provide you with further readings on each subject. Using a reference resource in your research is especially useful at the beginning of a project, when it can help you focus your activities.
